  • Peppercorns (Szechuan)

Szechuan Peppercorns, also known as Fagara, are not actual Peppercorns. Fagara comes from the berries of a small, prickly Ash Tree which grows in the Szechuan Region of China. This Central Province is well known for the spicy contributions it offers to Chinese Cuisine. The Szechuan Peppercorns have a spicy, woody aroma that gives a tingling sensation to the tip of the tongue. This sensation is caused by the release of an enzyme. Szechuan Peppercorns are an essential ingredient in Chinese five spice powder.
